{Real Parties} 50’s Doo Wop Soda Shop 60th Birthday Bash!

December 11th, 2013

While a pleasure, designing a party for a family member has its own set of stress and the high standards I place on my work become even higher, especially when the guest of honor is your very own mom!  In May, it was an honor to create a 50’s themed soda shop/drive-in birthday bash!

And surprise her we did!

I created a 3-layer invitation after finding this awesome mirror-like cardstock.  It reminded me of car detailing and complemented the idea of the 50’s drive-in.  A collection of retro fonts and signage informed guests of all the important party details, complete with a bubble gum blowing, roller skating waitress!

The invitations and coordinating invitations are now available at Belleza e Luce.  Additional coordinating items are available as well.

We requested guests to dress in their 50’s best, and were thrilled to see so many who did including my children.  My daughter’s entire outfit (poodle skirt, shirt, bobby socks, handkerchief that was tied around her pony tail, glasses, belt, and crinoline) was made by the extremely talented women at Hip Hop 50’s Shop.

I had a caricature of my mom made up to resemble the drive-in from the movie “American Graffiti” but in our party colors of pink, aqua, turquoise, black, and red.  It stood at the escort card, and later, favor table.  The place cards were old 45’s with a label we custom designed.belleza e luce invites-33

Our hamburger and shake cake, complete with fries was created by the ever talented Elyse from Joy & Cake.  I cannot tell you how many people looked at the display and had no idea it was a cake; our family is still talking about it!

The detailing was simply incredible!  My pictures do the cake no justice at all.belleza e luce invites-47

The tables were named after my mother’s favorite songs from the 50’s.  In the design, I included a short portion of the song along with the song title. belleza e luce invites-131  belleza e luce invites-133

We served typical drive-in and diner style food at the party starting off with appetizers (aka “The Temptations”), main dishes (“The Platters”) including fried chicken, meatloaf, turkey, and mashed potatoes, fun foods with kids young and old (“The Little Be-Boppers”) including grilled cheese, french fries, onion rings, and mac & cheese, and finally ended with cake, make-your-own sundaes and milk shakes (“Happy Endings”).  belleza e luce invites-135 Our favors were chocolate lollipops in the shape of records and each guest took home the glass Coca Cola glasses that doubled as their milkshake glasses for the evening.

Popsicle Party Collection

July 16th, 2012

Some of you may remember the Popsicle Party playdate I threw for my children last year.  I’m so excited to share with you a complete whimsical, carnival-styled Popsicle Collection that I recently styled.

I am quite smitten with this collection, as to me, it just screams summer with the brightly colored stripes, and who doesn’t love an ice cold popsicle on a hot summer day (I’m partial to creamsicles myself!).  It is perfect for a child’s summer birthday but versatile enough for a family get together or pool party, and an alternative to a luau.

I created a multi-stripe background for the tablescape that matched the colors used in the collection.  Don’t you love those sample containers of paint you can get at Lowe’s or Home Depot?  They are perfect for projects like this!  An array of goodies, including cupcakes adorned with toppers and candy-created popsicles (credit where credit is due – I first saw this adorable idea here), sixlets in varying colors, candy dots, and of course, popsicles covered the table display.

The complete collection is now available in my shop and includes invitations, cupcake toppers, favor tags, bottle labels, signs, banners, and more!

In addition, to launching our new collection, I am pleased to offer this design as a complete Party Package for 12 which includes: invitations and party decor for 12 guests.  I will be expanding my Party Package line to include some of my other popular collections as well as our some new collections very soon!

Congratulations to all the newly engaged!

While there are many ladies who have been envisioning their big day since they were little girls and have planned countless Barbie weddings, there are those who are completely overwhelmed at the thought of planning a wedding.

Yes, planning a wedding can be overwhelming at times, but it should also be a time of happiness, excitement, and fun.

I think that my boys would probably name him Mr Elf. They’re still a bit young to name things and are not very creative.. :)
