{Fabulous Clients} Mary Poppins Baby Shower

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014

I have some more lovely photos from another fabulous client to share with you today.  Alicia contacted me last May about a baby shower for her sister.  She knew right away that she wanted a Mary Poppins theme in a red, black, and white color scheme, and requested some custom items for this special event.  I was already excited to work with Alicia on these custom pieces, and then she told me she is a Disney cast member!  Anyone who knows me or my family is well aware of how much we love Disney.  I secretly wish I could retire to one of those ‘houses’ in Adventureland next to the Dole Whip stand.  But I digress … her sister was expecting a little girl and we created some lovely custom items to welcome Marina into the world.

Outside guests were greeted by a penguin waiter complete with bow tie.

A large sign hung above the doorway with the famous words Bert said before Mary, Michael, Bert, and Jane jumped into the chalk drawings, “You think.  You wink.  You do a double blink.  You close your eyes … and jump!”

Thank you so much Alicia for sharing photos of your celebration, and I’m sure that Marina is “practically perfect in every way!”

{Real Parties} Classy & Fabulous Chanel Inspired Baby Shower

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

“A girl must be two things: classy and fabulous.”  The famous words of Coco Chanel!

I created a color palette of black, white, and light pink – everything from plates, menus, the cake, and centerpieces.

The event took place at the lovely Branches in their waterfall garden, and were fortunate to have a beautifully sunny and warm October day!  It was so warm in fact that only half hour into the party, we needed to bring in large umbrellas for shading to provide comfort and some heat relief to the guests.

Guests entered the garden to find a table with escort cards designed to resemble Chanel perfume bottle labels.

Custom designed bookplates with an area for guests to write a personal message sat on a bistro table with the latest ultrasound photo of Faith.  I was completely amazed that with 71 guests attending the shower, Faith did not receive one duplicate book for her library!

An area was created to display the hors d’oeuvres consisting of fruit, vegetables and crudite, and antipasta including fresh mozzarella, eggplant, artichoke hearts, and roasted peppers.

The tables were draped in black satin pintuck linens with pink pinktuck napkins.  We choose a pocket-fold for the napkins to display the layered menus.  Empty bottles with Chanel-inspired perfume labels displayed the table number.

The centerpieces were crafted using Sweet Akito roses to form a lovely pink ball atop a black urn.  In lieu of traditional favors, my mother and I decided to make a contribution to the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit at Monmouth Medical Center, the hospital where Faith will be born.  At each placesetting, a small card informing guests of our decision was attached to a March of Dimes awareness bracelet.  It was touching to hear how many of our guests appreciated this gesture.

I requested that the guests bring their gifts wrapped in black and white, and was so pleased to see that most of them did.  Some guests even got especially creative with their wrapping.

Guests were also asked to dress in black and white – with pearls encouraged!  It was a request, but I also knew my guest list where most of our family and friends wear black at weddings, etc. so this was not something too out of the ordinary or drastic of a request.

The exquisite chocolate cake with mousse filling was made by Elyse of By Little Hands, the same fabulous woman who created Cibella’s Jolly Holiday cake.  I sent her the inspiration board I created for the shower, and left it in her hands!  It was delicious!  She will also be creating the cake for Luca’s upcoming party with a flavor I am super excited about (I am going to leave that surprise, for now!)

The shower was a wonderful success and loved by everyone, but most importantly my sister.  At the start of the shower, I toasted the soon-to-be mom, wishing her well, a healthy daughter, and of course, a quick delivery!  Faith is scheduled to make her official appearance soon, and I cannot wait to meet her!  Welcome to motherhood, Melissa – I know you are going to be a wonderful mommy!

Chanel Inspired Baby Shower Invitations

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Things have been wonderfully busy at Belleza e Luce!  I have 3 personal parties that I am prepping for in addition to those of my fabulous clients.

The Chanel-inspired baby shower invitations for my sister turned out beautifully!  I was so pleased with the final outcome after many revisions.  I am a such a perfectionist, and spent many hours creating the design, reworking the colors, and finally assembling them.  Until yesterday when we finally had rain (this summer we’ve had no rain, I mean none – the grass is more like hay, the deer ate my garden), our deck had pink pixie dust scattered about it.

Without further adieu, here are the invitations …

The suite consists of 3 pieces fastened together with a pewter brad nestled inside a black box lined with pink glitter and sealed with a wrap-around mailing label using the same scrollwork  as the invitation.  The invitation displayed a signature quote of the famous Coco Chanel:

a girl should be two things: classy and fabulous

Wonderful news!

After weeks of waiting, my sister finally had her ultrasound yesterday.

It’s a GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!

My daughter is thrilled beyond belief and was jumping up and down shouting, “I was right!”  Luca is happy as well as he remains ‘the little man’ of the family.

A baby girl baby shower it is.  Onto the planning (and the shopping!)

{Party Planner Thursday}

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

In continuing the countdown until I find out if I will have a niece or nephew to spoil come November, I put together my top theme ideas for a baby boy baby shower.  My ideas include French Carnival/Circus, Mod Menagerie, Aqua & Red, Blue Velvet, Vintage Blues, and An Afternoon in Tuscany.   Touch choices as I really like all the ideas.  Which one is your favorite?

{Inspiration} Citrus Twist

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

I am working on the finishing touches to our family’s annual pool/bbq/July 4th party invitations which will be going in the mail early next week.  This year I have decided to forgo the red, white and blue decor and have a Citrus Twist party!  Shocking?  A little.  But it mixes it up a bit!

This palette of yellow, lime, and orange is refreshing and crisp and can be used for any summer party, baby or bridal shower!  Afterall, nothing says summer than a cool glass of lemonade and a slice of key lime pie!

{Party Planner Thursday} Friday Edition!

Friday, May 28th, 2010

I have some exciting and wonderful news to share with you!  I am going to be an aunt!

My little sister (little by only age as she about 2 inches taller than me!), and only sibling, is pregnant with her first child who is due to make his/her appearance sometime around November 5.  My sister and her husband shared the good news with the family at Easter, but waited until more recently to share with extended family and friends.  As you can only imagine, my mind is exploding with so many ideas for a BABY SHOWER!

Since I still have 19 more days until I know whether to concentrate my ideas on blue or pink, I thought I would share the top shower themes/motifs I am thinking about over the next three Party Planner Thursdays.  This week I am concentrating on gender neutral and themes that I like for either a baby girl or boy.

In my brainstorming, I am trying to keep in mind that the shower will most probably take place at the end of September or early October.  In New Jersey, the weather can be warm and gorgeous or already chilly.  I cannot depend on good weather and the use of the great outdoors.  I also have not begun to search for a party venue as of yet.

{Sources: Urban Chic, Sweet Surprise, 50’s Retro, Bebe Bistro, Toile, All White}

Of these 6 ideas, I think the Sweet Surprise will be nixed quite quickly as my sister isn’t a huge candy and sweets girl.  My top 2 picks from this group is the Urban Chic and Bebe Bistro ideas.
